If your tshirt isn’t organic, it might be. Most people don’t pay too much attention to America’s most popular fabric, tshirts are our business though, so we’re not most people. We started researching organic options for our garment decoration in 2000. Back then, green was still the realm of the hippies, so major manufacturers were pretty much ignoring organic cotton. Only smaller boutique manufacturers were producing the garments, and while we were all for supporting those smaller outfits, our clients weren’t too hot on paying the (dramatically) increased cost for environmentally sustainable t-shirts. Designing a killer tshirt is a major deal for bands. The humble tshirt wears a lot of hats for a gigging band. Merch is blood, next to the gigs themselves (sometimes), it’s a beefy chunk of a band’s income. Having bad ass tshirts is a necessity. That means a lot of variables. Garment style, color & artwork are all critical points in cost and resale value. If your merch is good, people don’t even HAVE to like your band, but if your tshirts suck, people will have to REALLY like you to buy one. Read the rest of this entry »
